I returned yesterday from San Antonio. I heard Kirk Cameron speak at the Academy about the acting process along with Stephen Kendrick's sneak preview scenes of "Courageous" set to be released in theaters nationwide next September.
Kirk Cameron walked us through the practicality, woes, and pitfalls of film acting and shared his testimony. He said, "If I win at Hollywood and lose at home [with my family], I lose." I agree with Mr. Doug Phillips that these are the most meaningful words I have ever heard a movie actor speak.
The shorts this year were not particularly good in regard to previous festivals. Where the competition really did shine was in the feature film category. "No Greater Love," "The Runner From Ravenshead," "The Penny," and "Divided" were my favorites.
Everyone at the festival also got a chance to see a rough cut version of "Ace Wonder," which is tentatively scheduled to release on Father's Day 2011.
I am glad I had met Nathan Webster during the ride to the festival with the Moore family before I had seen "The Penny," otherwise I would have been too intimidated to speak to him. It is without a doubt one of my top 3 picks for best feature film production quality from the festival of all time—rivaling "Fireproof" and "Expelled."
I got a chance to meet lots of other folks around the Dallas area—more than I had ever at a festival before. I hope to get some income from some and a reputation from all.
There are also some distant contacts whom I acquired for any distant projects with which I could assist.
I have 3 current planned ideas for festival submissions in 2012. They are narrow enough in scope that I think 15 months should be an adequate timeframe. I hope to have God's blessing in the sharing of these stories that should be told.
In Christ,
Adam
